i want to "safely" oc my proc. By this i mean that i'm not so worried if i have to buy another proc, but i dont want to push it to the edge, and have to monitor it alla the time. So a nice safe OC, lol

I've read its "safe" to OC this chip to 2.9 or 3 ghz. but thats just some fools on the internet.

If someone can , I would like to set up a day in advance where we can do this.

I will set up my other PC on the desk so I can talk to you through that if i cant reboot etc.

CPX said last time he was helping me abou t"remote assistance" - I'm happy to do that whatever it is.

PGmoney was talking maybe there was an "easy" way to do it. IDK.

Eel, I'm not the most qualified guy to tell you all of this but:

Firstly overclocked systems are a lot less stable with alot more heat production and even if they do work their 'lifetime' is reduced. In short theres a reason that amd produce the chip at that frequency if it was an easy fix they'd do it.

That said and if you still want to proceed there are many ways of doing so. In effect your options are how deep into the system do you want to go to manualy take over control of the relevent things. I recomend as shallow as possible i.e. an overclocking utility (just a program you instal) as this has the most safty buffers/least room for fuckups. As for which one, if you want highly opinionated people to tell you why one is best just google it really I don't know they mostly all do the same thing. Then you need to decide what settings you want. This is really personal opinion my suggestion is leave it as it is amd know what they are doing better than me! but www.amdgeeks.net/ is quite a good site for finding what works what you can achieve etc.

IMPORTANT. cooling. over clocking isn't really about whats the best speed to run xxx(cpu) at but to say if a poorly cooled xxx is optimaly run at yyy what is the optimal speed for a well cooled xxx. In other words if you want to overclock, put the effort into cooling the rest falls into place.

I am sure PG could hep ya. Cooling is the KEY, don't know if you have a stock cpu cooler. You can get into the bios and check the temps on your CPU, but that really don't help. I had the MB with that CPU and found that I could not keep things stable, when I tried to OC it, so I basically gave up and ran it stock voltage. It's been too long to remember what I did to help you out so I won't even try. As far as I know you need to be in BIOS to change the settings and re-boot to see what it runs like, I don't know if there is a program out there that will allow you to do BIOS changes on the fly. I don't think so, PG might know. As I said System temps are important to know as they will burn u up and out of service.

I want to do mine but this board I have now has so many choices, it boggles my mind.

my gigabyte board came with a software utility called easy tune 6 that can supposedly OC both the processor and the vid card, I goofed with it a couple times, but i honestly dont think it actually did anything. For example, the settings in Speed Boost (theres 3 levels) showed that the processor was OC'd, but another area showed the processor was still at stock speeds and there were no other noticeable speed increases anyway.

Personally,
I don't think your going to see much of a gain from a OC CPU that is already running 2.7GHz. Also, if you OC, I hope that you aren't running on a stock cooler. To be honest, if you plan to OC that then you my as well just buy a quad core, considering the price. Or just invest in a new video card...
